ZSN4 Series DC Motors for Cement Rotary Kilns – Model Designation
SIMO ZSN4 series DC motor example: ZSN4-280-11B — “Z” denotes DC motor; “SN” denotes cement rotary kiln application; “N4” denotes the fourth series design; “280” denotes frame center height (mm); first “1” denotes armature core length code; second “1” denotes end shield code; “B” denotes with compensating winding.
Note: Frame sizes 315 and 355 are both supplied with compensating windings; thus, the suffix “B” may be omitted.
Numerals “1” and “2” denote short and long end shields, respectively.
Armature core length codes, ordered from longest to shortest, are: 3, 2, 1, 09, 08, 07.
ZSN4-400-092/630 kW/1500 rpm Main Drive DC Motor for Cement Rotary Kiln – Overview
The SIMO ZSN4 series DC motors are a specialized product line developed based on the Z4 series DC motors, specifically tailored to the operational load characteristics of cement rotary kilns.
The SIMO ZSN4 series DC motors feature an octagonal structure, achieving high stator space utilization. The stator yoke is laminated and capable of withstanding pulsating current and high di/dt conditions. When powered by a three-phase fully-controlled bridge rectifier supply, no external smoothing reactor is required. The motors employ Class F insulation, enabling higher power ratings. Designed specifically for cement rotary kiln applications, these motors deliver starting torque up to 2.5 times rated torque. A pipe-ventilation cooling system ensures safe and reliable operation in harsh, high-dust environments.
ZSN4-400-092/630 kW/1500 rpm Main Drive Motor for Cement Rotary Kiln – Performance Specifications
1. The motor shall operate at rated output under the following service conditions:
1.1 Altitude not exceeding 1000 m.
1.2 Inlet cooling medium temperature not exceeding 40 °C.
1.3 Motor duty type: Continuous (S1).
1.4 Armature and field circuits are supplied by static rectifier power sources; alternatively, DC generator sets may be used.
1.5 For pipe-ventilated motors, airflow and static pressure must meet the values specified in the table below. The air inlet is located on the end shield opposite the commutator side.
| Frame Size | Airflow (m³/h) | Static Pressure (Pa) |
| ZSN4-225 | 2880 | 1400 |
| ZSN4-250 | 3000 | 1400 |
| ZSN4-280 | 4000 | 1600 |
| ZSN4-315 | 4680 | 1600 |
| ZSN4-355 | 5200 | 1600 |
2. Motor insulation class: F.
3. Rated armature voltage: 440 V; optional voltages include 400 V, 220 V, or others per customer request. At lower armature voltages, constant-torque speed control is achieved; under continuous armature current conditions, the motor’s minimum speed reaches 20 r/min while maintaining rated torque smoothly and stably.
4. The motor’s rated excitation voltage is 180 V; other excitation voltages are also available upon request. To ensure reliable insulation of the excitation system, a discharge resistor must be connected in parallel across the excitation winding terminals whenever the excitation circuit is disconnected, thereby preventing self-induced electromotive force (EMF). When the excitation voltage is 180–220 V, the resistance value is approximately seven times the cold-state resistance of the excitation winding; when the excitation voltage is 320–370 V, the resistance value is approximately five times.
5. The efficiency values listed in the technical data table refer to operation at rated power, rated voltage, and rated speed; these values include excitation losses but exclude the power required by the ventilation equipment.
6. The ZSN4-225 motor is not equipped with a compensating winding but does incorporate a series field winding.
7. The motor is supplied with a terminal marked for grounding.
8. The performance of motors in this series complies with the national standard GB755–87 “Basic Technical Requirements for Rotating Electrical Machines” and the ministry-issued standard JB6316–92 “Technical Specifications for Z4-Series DC Motors”; they may also be tested per the requirements of IEC Standard IEC 34-1.
