I. Overview of SIMO Motor’s Z4 Series DC Motors

    Z4 Series DC Motors: Center heights 100–355 mm conform to the People’s Republic of China Machinery Industry Standard JB/T 6316-92, “Technical Specifications for Z4 Series DC Motors”, defining the standard small-size DC motor series; center heights 400–450 mm constitute an extended Z4 series beyond the standard range; center heights 500–710 mm represent a newly developed medium-size DC motor series by our factory.     Compared with the Z2 and Z3 series, the Z4 Series DC Motors offer significant advantages: they can operate not only from DC generator sets but also from static rectifier power supplies. Moreover, they feature low moment of inertia, excellent dynamic performance, and high tolerance to load variation rates—making them especially suitable for control systems requiring smooth speed regulation, high efficiency, automatic speed stabilization, and rapid response—achieving today’s internationally advanced technical level.

    The motor duty rating is continuous duty (S1). At altitudes up to 1000 m and ambient air temperatures up to 40 °C, the motor can operate continuously at rated conditions specified in the technical data table.     The Z4 Series DC Motors cover a power range from 1.5 kW to 840 kW. Rated speeds include nine values: 3000, 1500, 1000, 750, 600, 500, 400, 300, and 200 r/min. Excitation is separately excited, with excitation voltage rated at 180 V.     Motors with rated voltage 160 V generally require an external reactor when powered by a single-phase bridge rectifier; the required inductance value of the externally connected reactor is indicated on the motor nameplate. Motors with rated voltage 440 V do not require an external reactor.

    The performance of this motor series complies not only with Chinese National Standard GB/T 755, “General Technical Requirements for Rotating Electrical Machines”, but also substantially conforms to German VDE 0530 standards.

Model Designation Meaning: Z4-280-11B — “Z” denotes DC motor; “4” denotes Series 4; “280” denotes frame center height (mm); the first “1” denotes core length code; the second “1” denotes front-end shield code (where “1” = short end shield, “2” = long end shield); “B” denotes presence of compensating winding.

Note: For model Z4-112/2-1, the digit immediately following the “/” indicates the number of poles, and the subsequent digit indicates the core length code.

II.SIMO Motor Z4 Series DC MotorsStructural Introduction

The Z4 series DC motors feature an octagonal fully-laminated structure, offering high space utilization and the ability to withstand pulsating current and rapid load current changes when powered by static rectifiers.

The Z4 series DC motors are typically supplied without a series field winding, making them suitable for automatic control applications requiring forward/reverse operation. Upon request, they can also be manufactured with a series field winding. Motors with frame sizes H100–H280 do not incorporate compensating windings; however, motors with frame sizes H250 and H280 may be optionally equipped with compensating windings depending on specific requirements. Motors with frame sizes H315–H450 are supplied with compensating windings.

Motors with frame sizes H500–H710 conform to IEC international standards for overall dimensions and technical specifications; mechanical dimensional tolerances comply with ISO international standards.

Multiple derivative configurations are available, including self-ventilated, axial-fan-equipped, totally enclosed, and air/air-cooler types. Required cooling airflow volume, static pressure, and fan motor power for each frame size are listed in Table 1. The mounting configuration of this motor series complies with GB/T 997 “Motor Structural Mounting Types and Designations”. Except for the axial distance between foot-mounting holes (dimension B), all other mounting dimensions conform to IEC standards.

    When viewed from the drive end (non-commutator end), the motor terminal box is located on the right side of the frame (i.e., standard or “positive” box position). If the user requires the terminal box on the opposite side, “reverse box” must be specified when placing the order. The standard shaft configuration is single-shaft extension; when facing the terminal box (standard/positive box), the shaft extends to the left. Dual-shaft extension is also available upon request. The default direction of rotation, when viewed from the commutator end, is counterclockwise. (3) Motor Accessories

    Upon user request, motors can be designed to accommodate optional accessories such as tachogenerators, pulse generators, centrifugal switches, and brakes. Specific requirements should be discussed directly with our factory.
