Y-Series 10 kV High-Voltage Three-Phase Induction Motors

I. Overview of the Y-Series 10 kV High-Voltage Three-Phase Induction Motors  

The Y-Series medium-size high-voltage three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors are a key product line developed by our company, incorporating ABB’s technical standards for high-voltage three-phase induction motors and leveraging our extensive practical experience in manufacturing high-voltage motors.  

The power ratings, mounting dimensions, and electrical performance of this motor series comply with China’s national standard GB755 “General Technical Requirements for Rotating Electrical Machines” and IEC international standards. Mechanical dimensions and tolerances of all motor components conform to China’s national standards GB1800–GB1804 and ISO international standards. The enclosure protection class of this series complies with GB4942.1 and IEC 34-5 “Degrees of Protection Provided by the General Purpose Enclosures for Rotating Electrical Machines”, rated IP23 (open-type). Other protection classes such as IP44 or IP54 are available upon special request and negotiation. The cooling method complies with GB1993 and IEC 34-6 “Methods of Cooling for Rotating Electrical Machines”, rated IC01; alternative cooling methods may be arranged upon special request and negotiation. The standard mounting arrangement is horizontal with feet (IMB3), conforming to GB997 and IEC 34-7 “Types of Construction and Mounting Arrangements for Rotating Electrical Machines”.

II. Structural Description of the Y-Series 10 kV High-Voltage Three-Phase Induction Motors

The Y-Series medium-size high-voltage three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors feature a box-type frame structure. A protective cover can be mounted on the motor top. The enclosure protection class is IP23; the cooling method is IC01; the mounting arrangement is IMB3; the supply frequency is 50 Hz; the rated supply voltage is 10,000 V, with an allowable voltage deviation of ±5 %; the rated supply frequency is 50 Hz. Frame center height ranges from 400 mm to 630 mm; power range spans from 185 kW to 10,000 kW.

Duty type: S1; insulation class: F (tested per Class B requirements). Stator winding connection: star (Y) configuration. The rotor squirrel cage is fabricated from pure copper or pure aluminum and insulated with Class F materials.

Bearings are available in two types—rolling bearings and sliding bearings—selected based on motor power rating and speed.

This motor series is suitable for driving various mechanical equipment, including mills, rolling mills, crushers, fans, pumps, and blowers.

These high-voltage motors are intended for indoor use at altitudes not exceeding 1,000 m, ambient temperatures below 40 °C, low-dust environments, and locations free from steam, acidic/alkaline corrosive gases or explosive gases. If operating in dusty environments, periodic cleaning of internal motor dust is required, and appropriate dust protection measures must be implemented for the bearings.

This motor series complies with GB755 “Rotating Electrical Machines – Ratings and Performance” and relevant IEC standards.

III. Starting of the Y-Series 10 kV High-Voltage Three-Phase Induction Motors  

The rotor design of squirrel-cage motors employs advanced computational techniques to calculate starting temperature rise and mechanical stress, preventing premature motor failure caused by excessive starting load.       Users are advised to verify the following: (1) The moment of inertia of the driven machine’s rotating parts (referred to motor speed) shall not exceed the value specified under “J_load” in the technical data sheet; (2) The user’s power grid must ensure that the motor terminal voltage during starting remains no less than 85 % of the rated voltage; (3) The driven machine’s load torque characteristic shall conform to that of centrifugal loads (e.g., pumps and blowers).

V. Ordering Instructions for Y-Series 10 kV High-Voltage Three-Phase Induction Motors:

1. When placing an order, specify the motor model, power (kW), voltage, direction of rotation, protection class (IP rating), cooling method, special environmental conditions, and application requirements of the driven machinery.

2. All motors in this series are equipped with temperature-sensing elements; the stator typically incorporates six PT100 thermistors. Other requirements must be specified at the time of ordering.

3. Moisture-prevention heaters and bearing temperature-sensing elements may be added upon user request.

4. Viewed from the drive-end (D.E.), the main terminal box is located on the right side of the frame, or as agreed.

5. When the alphabetical sequence marked on the output terminals matches the phase sequence of the three-phase supply voltage, the motor shall rotate clockwise when viewed from the drive-end (D.E.); alternative rotation direction may be specified per agreement.

6. If the driven machinery is a fan or coal mill, please inform us of its moment of inertia (GD²) prior to ordering; a separate technical agreement may be required.

7. Our company can also supply the following products—technical agreements must be separately concluded with our company when ordering:
