TK Large-Sized Synchronous Motors for Air Compressors and Compressors
I. General Description
1. This motor series comprises the brushed synchronous motor series TK and the enhanced-safety brushless-excited synchronous motor series TAW.
1.1 The three-phase TK-series synchronous motors are primarily designed for reciprocating compressors, but may also drive other mechanical equipment such as pumps and fans, and are widely used in refrigeration and fertilizer industries.
1.2 The enhanced-safety brushless synchronous motor series TAW is extensively applied in hazardous locations with flammable and explosive gases, mainly serving petroleum, chemical, coal mining, ammonia production, fertilizer, and town-gas industries.
2. The TK-series synchronous motors comply with GB755 “Rotating Electrical Machines – Ratings and Performance” and JB/T8667.1 “Technical Specifications for Large Three-Phase Synchronous Motors – TK Series”.
3. The enhanced-safety brushless synchronous motor series TAW complies with GB755 “Rotating Electrical Machines – Ratings and Performance”, GB/T3836.1 “Electrical Apparatus for Explosive Gas Atmospheres – General Requirements”, GB/T3836.3 “Electrical Apparatus for Explosive Gas Atmospheres – Increased Safety ‘e’"e"”, GB8973 “Explosion-Proof Technical Requirements for Enhanced-Safety Brushless-Excited Synchronous Motors”, and GB8974 “Technical Specifications for Enhanced-Safety Brushless-Excited Synchronous Motors – TAW Series”.
4. This motor series offers multiple voltage ratings including 380V, 3300V, 6000V, 6300V, 6600V, 10000V, and 11000V. Motors are designed for full-voltage direct-on-line starting, but reduced-voltage starting is also available.
II. Structural Overview
1. Structurally, this synchronous motor series is available in two configurations: with shaft and pedestal bearings (IM7311), or without shaft and pedestal bearings (IM5710). Cooling methods include open-type natural ventilation (IC01) and pipe ventilation (IC37), among others. Motor enclosure protection ratings include IP00, IP20, IP21, IP23, IP44, and IP54. 2. The complete motor assembly consists of three major components: stator, rotor, and baseplate.
2.1 Stator: The frame is fabricated from welded steel plates. The stator core is built from stacked 0.5 mm thick high-permeability, low-loss silicon steel laminations; radial ventilating ducts separate core segments to facilitate heat dissipation. Ground insulation for stator windings employs advanced Class F insulation material, rated per Class B temperature rise limits. After winding insertion, the stator winding undergoes VPI (Vacuum Pressure Impregnation) treatment to ensure excellent dielectric and mechanical performance. TAW-series stator windings incorporate reliable corona suppression measures to raise the corona inception voltage.
2.2 Rotor: Pole cores are constructed from stacked 1.5 mm thick steel plates. Pole windings use advanced Class F insulation material, rated per Class B temperature rise limits. TK-series brushed synchronous motors feature steel slip rings mounted on the shaft; TAW-series enhanced-safety brushless synchronous motors integrate an AC exciter and rotating rectifier assembly on the shaft, along with a supplementary excitation cabinet. The damper winding employs special fastening techniques to prevent sparking during starting and loss-of-synchronism conditions.
2.3 Bearings: Bearings incorporate reliable insulation measures to prevent shaft currents. 2.4 Baseplate: Fabricated from welded steel, using steel plates ≥20–30 mm thick.
2.5. TAW-series motors are equipped with an upper water cooler; inlet/outlet water flanges are located at the top of the motor and include a leakage detector.
III. Starting Performance
Starting performance of this motor series conforms to JB/T8667.1 “Technical Specifications for Large Three-Phase Synchronous Motors – TK Series”. Special requirements may be accommodated upon consultation with the user.
