I. Product Overview of the SIMO Z4-355-11 280 kW / 200 kW 440 V B3 IP21S DC Motor:

The Z4-series DC motors—featuring center heights from 100 mm to 355 mm—are standardized small DC motors defined in the People’s Republic of China Machinery Industry Standard JB/T 6316–92, “Technical Specifications for Z4-Series DC Motors.” Center heights of 400 mm to 450 mm represent an extended Z4 DC motor series beyond the standard range. Center heights of 500 mm to 710 mm constitute a newly developed medium-duty DC motor series by our factory. This motor series is widely applicable in metallurgical rolling mills, metal-cutting machines, papermaking, dyeing and printing, cement production, plastic extrusion machinery, and other industries.

Compared with the Z2 and Z3 series, the Z4-series DC motors offer superior performance. They can be powered not only by DC drives but also by static rectifiers. Additionally, they feature low moment of inertia, excellent dynamic response, and high tolerance to rapid load variations. They are especially suitable for control systems requiring smooth variable-frequency speed regulation, high efficiency, automatic speed stabilization, and fast, sensitive response—meeting today’s world-advanced technical standards.

The motor duty rating is continuous operation (S1). In regions with altitude ≤1000 m and ambient air temperature ≤40 °C, the motor may operate at its rated data specified in the technical data sheet. This series employs Class F insulation.

The power range of the Z4-series DC motors spans from 1.5 kW to 840 kW; rated speeds include 3000, 1500, 1000, 750, 600, 500, 400, 300, and 200 rpm. The excitation mode is separately excited, with excitation voltage rated at 180 V. Beyond the above-specified ratings, other power outputs, armature voltages, speeds, and excitation voltages may be provided according to specific application requirements and user needs.

For motors rated at 160 V, operation with a single-phase bridge rectifier power supply generally requires coordination with a reactor. The required external reactor inductance value is indicated on the motor nameplate. Motors rated at 440 V do not require an external reactor.

The performance of this series complies not only with Chinese National Standard GB/T 755 but also substantially conforms to German Standard VDE 0530.

Model designation meaning: e.g., Z4-280-11B — “Z” denotes DC motor; “4” denotes Series 4; “280” denotes center height (mm); the first “1” denotes core length code; the second “1” denotes front-end cover code (“1” = short end cover; “2” = long end cover); “B” denotes compensating winding.

Note: For model Z4-112/2-1, the digit after “/” indicates the number of poles, and the second digit indicates the core length sequence number.

(1) Basic Structure

The Z4-series DC motors adopt an octagonal fully-laminated structure, achieving high space utilization while withstanding pulsating currents and rapid load-current variations when supplied by static rectifiers. Generally, Z4-series DC motors are manufactured without series windings, making them suitable for automatic control applications requiring forward/reverse rotation. Series windings may be incorporated upon user request. Motors with center heights of 100 mm to 280 mm are typically supplied without compensating windings; however, motors with center heights of 250 mm and 280 mm may be equipped with compensating windings depending on specific conditions and requirements. Motors with center heights of 315 mm to 450 mm are equipped with compensating windings.
