How to diagnose faults in servo motors and perform repairs
Shaanxi AsynchronousSIMO MotorTechnical Documentation: Electric motors are used in many areas of our daily lives. When an electric motor operates, it runs at high speed continuously. After prolonged operation, the motor heats up, potentially causing certain faults. Do you know how to diagnose and repair faults in servo motors? Let’s examine the specific methods for diagnosing motor faults and performing repairs.

1. Mechanical vibration during acceleration and deceleration. First, the pulse encoder may be faulty. In this case, check whether the voltage at the speed detection unit’s feedback terminal drops at a certain point. If the voltage drops, the pulse encoder is defective—replace the encoder. The pulse encoder’s cross-coupling may be damaged, causing the shaft speed to become unsynchronized with the detected speed. Replace the coupling. The tachometer motor may be faulty—repair or replace the tachometer. If the tachometer’s carbon brushes are worn and exhibit frequent sticking faults, remove the carbon brushes, polish them with steel wool sandpaper, simultaneously clean contaminants from the commutator, and then reinstall the servo motor.
2. Extremely high mechanical motion speed. In this case, inspect the position control unit and speed control unit; also verify whether the pulse encoder wiring is incorrect, and whether the pulse encoder’s coupling is damaged; check whether the tachometer transmitter terminal’s servo motor is connected in reverse, and whether the excitation signal line is reversed.
3. The spindle cannot perform orientation movement or cannot reach the target position. At this time, while checking the direction control circuit, direction board, and spindle control printed circuit board settings and adjustments, it is necessary to inspect whether the encoder’s output waveform is normal to determine whether the encoder is functional or defective.
